How the Affordable Care Act Creates Affordable Insurance

Affordable insurance - Some of the changes that came in the new American Affordable Care Act are confusing.  What does the law really mean to you, and what does it mean if you are trying to find affordable insurance?  For one thing, there are new rights and protections given over to the patient when they are trying to obtain affordable insurance.

Affordable insurance
- One big thing that the new Affordable Care Act Does is to create or bolster Consumer Assistance Programs in individual states that help individuals find affordable insurance.   Consumer Assistance Programs are state run programs that will now be better funded to help individuals that need assistance get more affordable insurance.  New grants are designed to offer hands on support to help people find affordable insurance.

One important feature that can help lower rates for more affordable insurance is that now many preventative services must be provided to you at no cost.  This means that your medical costs become overall more affordable since your affordable insurance must include preventative care such as blood pressure screenings and cholesterol tests.  Flu shots and well-baby doctor visits are also included in these affordable insurance programs.

One way that the Affordable Care Act creates more affordable insurance for you is that the Act requires health insurance companies to spend more of the premiums you pay to them primarily on health care itself, not overhead or administration costs.  This means that your dollar does not get lost in the shuffle, creating more affordable insurance options for you.  If you are an individual buying a policy, than the insurance company is now required to spend at least 80% of your premium dollars on your medical care, creating an overall more affordable insurance situation for you.  You will no longer be helping to pay so much more the things like marketing that many insurance companies spend their money on.  You will now be paying for your medical care, which is how you can really start to get affordable insurance.

Also because of the Affordable Care Act, insurance companies are no longer to create an annual limit on what they pay to cover your costs or to create a lifetime limit on what they cover. Lifetime limits are now prohibited.  This means that affordable insurance does not mean that you can get nickeled and dimed for extra money and costs to the insurance companies.  Now if you are paying for affordable insurance you will still get quality care, and don’t have to live in fear that you might have to shell out more money after already buying your insurance policy.

Many of these changes that have been introduced by the Affordable Care Act can create drastically more affordable insurance available to you.  Not only are getting a better product that can cover more items through what the policy offers, but you are also not being hit by hidden medical costs with as much frequency.  As with many government policies and laws, these changes can be confusing, but there is ample information on the federal government’s web site that helps to explain these changes.
